Towson Tigers Game 26 Recap, Weather You like It or Not

Towson TigersThe Tigers got bit by the big inning again, then played VCU tough, but the weather cut short any potential comeback and the game was called after six innings.

Gavin Weyman, who has been the Friday starter since the second weekend of the the season, came in for an inning of relief today, possibly signaling a shake-up in Towson’s pitching rotation. Given his recent dominance it would make sense to see Michael Adams take the bump in the opener at William & Mary, but David Marriggi has certainly pitched well enough earn the honor as well. We shall see.

Positive Pixels

  • Dean Stramara entered the game in the first inning with two runners on, three having already scored, and no outs. Two inherited runners scored on a groundball out and sacrifice fly, but after that it was light’s out for two more innings. It was Stramara’s third consecutive scoreless outing, each of which featured two strikeouts and zero walks. The junior righty has been the unsung hero of the staff, taking the ball in a variety of roles. Today he lowered his ERA to 3.89.
  • That’s 15 straight games on base for Colin Gimblet, who manufactured a run with a single, advance to second on a groundout, and two wild pitches. Amazingly, it was only the fourth run Gimblet has scored this season.

The Watch List

Andrew Cassard, OF – 0-1, 1 BB, 1 HBP. Cassard didn’t get a hit, but reached base twice and didn’t strikeout. After previously striking out in eight straight games, he has only one in his last five games and may be starting to come back around with the bat.

Richie Palacios, SS – 1-3, 1 HR. Palacios belted his fifth homer of the season and second in three games. He flied out with the bases loaded and two out in the fifth, but it’s hard to hold it against him when he has easily been the Tigers most consistent offensive weapon.

Dirk Masters, 2B – 1-1, 1BB. The young second baseman did what he does, reaching base twice at the bottom of the order and playing perfectly in the field.

Bo Plagge, P – 0.0 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 0 K. The Rams jumped all over Plagge, who threw only 10 of 24 pitches for strikes. Better days ahead and all that.

Towson travels to Williamsburg, VA for a weekend series against William & Mary. Nine against two seems unfair, but I suppose that’s why the Tribe are last in the Colonial Athletic Association.
