Although many of the would-have-been-open managerial jobs were filled internally before we really got into hiring season (Red Sox, Mets, Phillies), the Astros’ decision to let Joe Espada walk meant that there were two openings in MLB, together with the Mariners (who may ultimately just hire Espada, so it’s kinda [...]

I have at times seen some fans speculate that, because they generally spend well above the median MLB organization on payroll, the largest-market owners wouldn’t be as on board with a salary cap. The thinking is that the Dodgers and Yankees can afford to spend so much more than other [...]

The Cubs are expected to bring in longtime Rays international scouting director Steve Miller, as first reported by Francys Romero of BeisbolFR. Miller will serve as vice president of Chicago’s international scouting department. Miller graduated from the college coaching ranks in 2006 when he joined the Blue Jays as an area [...]

The mention of John Mallee being pursued by the Mets earlier today had me thinking about his first stint with the Cubs, and the young talent that came up as part of the championship team. That in turn had me thinking about Kris Bryant, about whom I hadn’t heard much [...]

The New York Mets have been linked to John Mallee, the assistant Chicago Cubs hitting coach credited for his work with Pete Crow-Armstrong. [...]

The Chicago Cubs aren’t expected to have much of a shakeup on their coaching staff this offseason, and we’ve already heard that the pitching coaches will likely stay in place. But the decision to bring the band back isn’t always entirely up to you. From Anthony DiComo: “Cubs assistant hitting coach [...]

The Cubs have more work to do this offseason. Could these prospects be put on the market to bring back MLB talent? [...]

With a weak starting pitching market crowded with suitors, the Chicago Cubs will be forced to bet heavily on a return to form from Edward Cabrera in 2027. [...]

Milwaukee is the smallest media market and the smallest metropolitan area, by population, of any that hosts a major-league team. Tampa Bay is much larger, but the Rays have arguably baseball's smallest fan base. Does that make this a nightmare matchup for the sport's biggest stage?View the full arti... [...]

It was a while ago at this point, but we’re in Spooky Season, so I’ll mention: finally saw ‘Obsession’ and ‘Backrooms,’ and I totally get why each was something of a breakout. In news that should not come as a surprise to anyone who knows ball, Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma reported that the Cubs are expected to retain pitching coach Tommy Hottovy and assistant pitching coach Casey Jacobson. The Cubs had one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball this past [...]

Total and complete vindication! Kidding, kidding. While I do believe the latest reporting from Arizona Phil at The Cub Reporter regarding the Chicago Cubs’ near-deal for Reid Detmers at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline should squash any lingering suspicions that I simply … made it up, the fact is I [...]

The Guardians are officially in offseason mode after being eliminated by the Rays in the ALCS, and they could be looking to move one of their star players prior to the start of the 2027 campaign. Steven Kwan is projected to earn a little more than $11 million in his [...]

If a coach’s retention rises to the level of “news,” that tends to be its own bit of news. Anyway, over at The Athletic, Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney report that Chicago Cubs pitching coach Tommy Hottovy and assistant pitching coach Casey Jacobson are both expected to be retained in [...]
