Towson Tigers Game 12 Recap

Towson TigersFor the second straight game, Towson took an early 1-0 lead, but were unable to fend off Ohio. The Tigers rallied late, with a Dick Miller home run bringing them within one in the bottom of the ninth, but the comeback was not to be as Bobcats closer Jake Roehn shut the door for the second straight game. One bright spot was Towson sophomore Alex Parker, who allowed only one hit and struck out five in the final 2.2 innings.

We’re Going Streaking (or Not)!

  • Andrew Cassard extended his hitting streak to four, coinciding with his placement in the lead-off spot. He’s hit .333 (6-18) in that span.
  • Charlie Watters also extended his streak to four and has scored at least one run in three straight.
  • Richie Palacios has reached base in every game this season.
  • Dirk Masters had his five game streak snapped with an 0-4 showing today.
  • After giving up six runs in one inning of work in the season opener, Alex Parker hasn’t given up a run in any of his subsequent three appearances, totaling 5.1 innings.

Positive Pixels

  • Towson has the top defense in the Colonial Athletic Association with a .979 fielding percentage. They are tied with Hofstra for the fewest errors at nine, despite playing four more games.
  • The Tigers have yet to be thrown out stealing this season, swiping seven bases in seven attempts.

The Watch List

Richie Palacios, SS – 2-4, 1 walk, 3 runs, 1 stolen base. Palacios returned to the hit column and scored each time he reached base today.

Andrew Cassard, OF – 1-4, 1 walk, 2 runs. Batting lead-off for the third game in a row, the sophomore outfielder reached base twice.

Dirk Masters, 2B – 0-4. All good things must come to an end.

Bo Plagge, P – 2.2 innings, 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 4 walks, 1 strikeout. It wasn’t Plagge’s best day on the mound. He did get four groundball outs, which is good.

David Marriggi, P – 4 innings, 11 hits, 7 runs (6 earned), 2 walks, 3 strikeouts. The lefty was able to keep the walks down, but clearly left too many pitches over the plate.
