Game 4 Preview

Towson TigersTowson starts a weekend series at University of Richmond today at 2 p.m. After an up and (mostly) down opening trip to New Mexico, the Tigers will look to rebound against head coach Matt Tyner’s former team. Tyner should have great familiarity with many of the Spiders’ hitters, so, if they are able to execute, we could see much better pitching performances this weekend. Interestingly, the Towson has a new Friday starter, at least for this week. Here’s the lineup for today’s game.

  1. Mark Grunberg, CF
  2. Richie Palacios, SS
  3. Colin Gimblet, RF
  4. Richard Miller, 3B
  5. Charlie Watters, 1B
  6. Logan Burke, DH
  7. Trey Martinez, C
  8. Dirk Masters, 2B
  9. Andrew Cassard, LF

SPGavin Weyman, RHP

Watch List

Richie Palacios, SS – Every day, all the way. Palacios is basically the reason I’m here. I should probably do something to slow down my personal hype train for the Tiger’s shortstop, but that’s not going to happen until he gives me a reason to hit the brakes.

Andrew Cassard, LF – Based off of not much, I’m intrigued by the sophomore outfielder. I believe Richmond is starting the reigning A-10 pitcher of the week, Aaron Winkler, and I want to see what Cassard is capable of doing.

Bo Plagge, OF/P – Not in today’s lineup, perhaps we’ll see Plagge pitch in relief.

Random Musings

  • The Tigers send junior Juco transfer Gavin Weyman to the mound today. Weyman appears to have pitched primarily in relief at UConn Avery Point, recording a save in the Junior College World Series. He recorded only 32 K’s in 41 1/3 innings, so I don’t think he has overpowering stuff, but at 6′ 3″, 180 lbs, he might have some room for growth. Gavin was kind enough to post a couple of videos of himself to YouTube, including this one that shows him throwing from several angles. It’s a nice, easy delivery, let’s see what he can do against D-I competition.
  • The game has streaming video online. Towson’s Twitter account says it costs money, but I haven’t verified that. The feed starts at 1:40 p.m. eastern time.
