Semantic satiation, TomTatos and more fun stuff in the filaments today, including non-sports related stuff. And some sports related stuff. Just lots of stuff, in no particular order.

  • I’ve heard of taking a wrong turn in Albuquerque, but this is ridiculous.
  • I hate the Yankees as much as the next guy, but letting Mariano Rivera play a little centerfield before he retires is really cool. In his honor and in hopes of (with baseball bat-guitar goodness)…
  • Washington Wizards training camp is nearly upon us and the fine folks at Truth About It are gearing up with a series of FAQ’s. I’m looking forward to this NBA season, I think it will be an exciting one in the DMV. And, if that’s the case, hopefully it curbs some of the needless negativity that dominates any discussion of the Wizards (not that a little negativity isn’t warranted sometimes, but it seems particularly brutal with the Wiz).
  • This has to be a prank, I think. Does Jimmy Kimmel do anything that isn’t a prank? Oooh, maybe that’s the prank!
  • OK, “prank” looks really weird to me now. Apparently this is a case of Semantic Satiation.
  • Just, like, go with the flow, bro.
  • Rumors are swirling that Dale Sveum is out as coach of the Cubs, with names like Joe Girardi and Brad Ausmus being floated as potential replacements. I wouldn’t be shocked if Sveum is let go, but I’m not betting on it. Theo, thankfully, doesn’t seem to give a shit about conventional wisdom.
  • Three words: Monday Night Football
  • Funny list (what do you expect from Cracked.com), The 5 Most Useless Things Said During Sports Broadcasts. I would add anything that suggests the announcer has a deep psychological understanding of any player or coaches psyche.
  • Zen Pencils is one of my favorite new finds, adding illustration to classic poems and literature. One of these days I will get back into visual art. One of these days…
  • You say potato, I say tomato, oh crap, it’s a TomTato.
  • On that note, I leave you with this. It’s not the clip I was looking for, but it’s the clip that I found. As always, you’re welcome.
